Ozone Mood Lamp

At a glance

The challenge
Design a mood lamp that 12–17 year olds would want on their desk: one with cultural character, not a generic gadget look.
Who it’s for
Kids aged 12–17, using it by the bed and on the study table.
What I did
An inspiration board of Indian temple pillars and colonnades, then a form where the lamp’s negative space echoes the pillar shapes, and a dock with a touch screen for its controls.
Outcome
Ozone: a portable, wirelessly charged lamp with a control dock, shown in three colourways.

Skills used

  • Concept development
  • Inspiration research
  • Form exploration
  • CMF
  • Interaction design
  • 3D modelling & rendering

Ozone is a mood lamp designed for kids aged 12–17. The design is inspired by Indian temple pillars, while keeping a form that appeals to that age group.

01 · Discover

Inspiration

I built an inspiration board of Indian temple pillars, stepwell colonnades and arched halls. What carried into the product was the rhythm of pillar and gap: solid forms framing slices of light.

Notice how the negative area resembles shapes in the pillar and the space they form

03 · Develop

The Charging Dock

Ozone’s charger has an interactive screen to control brightness and colour and to manage other settings. The lamp itself charges wirelessly on the dock.

04 · Deliver

In Use

Put the lamp on the dock when it runs out of charge, and take it wherever you want later on, like the study table.
